Donald Trump’s trade war with China has forced ByteDance's TikTok, to pursue a sale of its US business after the president signed an executive order last week that could shut it down on 15 September . Separating the parts of TikTok; Microsoft is aiming to buy from the social media platform and its Beijing-based parent company ByteDance could take up to a year or more, well past a September 15 deadline set by White House. The arguements came from White House officials saying that TikTok poses a national security risk, claiming personal user data could be shared with the Chinese state government. So far, Twitter and Microsoft are the only reported bidders for Bytedance’s business, but others could emerge. White House Targets WeChat: Tencent Loses $46 Billion

Image
The Trump administration’s move to ban U.S. residents from doing business with Tencent Holdings Ltd. ’s WeChat app rippled through Chinese markets, erasing $46 billion from the Internet giant’s market value and sending the yuan to its biggest slump in two weeks.  The U.S. president’s executive order fueled concern that the deteriorating U.S.-China relationship will weigh on companies, economies and markets. Confusion over the scope of the order led to volatile trading on Friday, with Tencent plunging more than 10% before paring its loss to 6.8% at the midday break. A U.S. official later clarified the ban will only cover WeChat. China’s largest gaming and social media company cratered after the vaguely worded executive order raised concerns a ban could hammer not just the use of WeChat and WeChat Pay in the U.S. but extend to business relationships with some of America’s largest corporations. The world’s biggest games publisher by revenue in 2019, according to Newzoo data, it colla

Lebanon Massive Outbreak : Who is considered to be reponsible?

Image
Tuesday’s explosion destroyed much of the Lebanese capital’s main coastal port, leaving at least 137 people dead, 5,000 injured, and hundreds of thousands homeless. The area in the immediate vicinity of the blast resembled a smoking wasteland with a 400-foot-wide crater, and the empty shells of apartment buildings scarring the city skyline. This explosion in Beirut was giving a way to anger, as new information emerged that officials in the Lebanese capital had ignored repeated warnings about a stockpile of dangerous chemicals linked to the blast. The ammonium nitrate — equivalent to 1,800 tons of TNT — was unloaded from the cargo ship Rhosus in 2014, according to two letters issued by the director general of Lebanese Customs. There is a growing body of evidence, including emails and public court documents, that officials knew about a shipment of thousands of tons of  “floating bomb” that had been confiscated by Lebanese authorities and was being stored in a warehouse at

The Trump administration has announced new guidelines that will block any new student planning to enroll in the online-only study from entering the United States. The United States has the highest number of foreign immigrants. As the country went into lockdown beginning in March 2020 to control the spread of the coronavirus, tens of millions of workers lost their jobs within weeks, particularly in sectors that require face-to-face interaction, such as restaurants, hotels, shops, and even health clinics. President Trump also extended a near total ban that he had first announced  in April, on entry into the United States by immigrants seeking “green cards” for permanent residency. Global Food Crisis: COVID-19 worsen the situation

Image
The novel corona-virus disease (COVID-19) is having an unprecedented impact around the world, both in health and socioeconomic terms. Although, a full-blown global food crisis, multiple famines, or prolonged food system problems as a result of COVID-19 could create larger humanitarian damage over the next two to five years compared to direct damage from the virus itself. While COVID-19 does not discriminate, the 55 countries and territories that are home to 135 million acutely food-insecure people in need of urgent humanitarian food and nutrition assistance are the most vulnerable to the consequences of this pandemic as they have very limited or no capacity to cope with either the health or socioeconomic aspects of the shock.   Major causes by COVID-19 : On the food supply side, harvests have been good and the 2020 outlook for staple crops is promising. However, movement restrictions necessary to contain the spread of the virus will disrupt the transport and processing of food and

Cigarette Butts: Most Littered Item In The World

Image
Thousands of smokers don't think twice about leaving a trail of cigarette litter behind them. A good number of people still think cigarette butts are biodegradable because the filters are cotton, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.   Cigarette filters are actually made of cellulose acetate, a synthetic compound derived from the acetylation of the plant substance cellulose and they capture over 4,000 chemicals that are introduced into the environment just by being tossed. Cigarettes are often littered within 10 feet of a permanent ashtray. Now that most buildings do not allow smoking inside, the problem of discarded butts on sidewalks, entryways and in courtyards is increasing. Cigarette butts discarded in parking lots, along sidewalks and in street gutters miles from the coast inevitably make their way through storm drains, creeks and rivers to the beach and the ocean. A single butt in just one liter of water can poison and kill a fish. The 'Filter' cigarettes
