Canada expels Huawei from the game of 5G, following US, UK and Australia

Two of Canada's biggest Telecom Companies, Bell Canada and Telus have expelled Huawei from 5G network Partnership.

The Chinese Tech Giant Huawei has been alleged several times of stealing intellectual data from foreign technology companies, posing too many national security threats already.

On June 2, 2020, Bell Canada and Telus Mobility announced their 5G Network Partners who are the rivals of Huawei.
  •  Bell Canada announced Tuesday morning that Sweden-based Ericsson will be its second supplier of the radio access network equipment that has been Huawei’s main product line in Canada since entering the market in 2008.
  • Later in the day, Telus Corp announced that it had also selected Ericsson, as well of  Nokia of Finland, as suppliers for its 5G networks.
Huawei's ambitions to be a player in Canada's 5G Network has been blown away by the decision of these companies.

The Canadian Former Minister of Finance, Joe Oliver says, "I don't believe the Canadian government should open up 5G network to Huawei because there is risk of spying and there is risk of cyber attacks. As well, we are part of the Five Eyes which is a sharing of intelligence between Canada, USA, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand."

Huawei has been accused of various instances of intellectual property theft against companies such as Nortel, Cisco Systems and T-Mobile US. The companies claimed that Huawei's expansion can affect American business interests and potentially increase the risk of stealing trade secrets from U.S. firms.

Interestingly, Nortel Networks was one of the first companies that lent its hands to Huawei in international market. In the 1990s, the Canadian telecom giant Nortel outsourced the production of their entire product line to Huawei and subsequently much of their product engineering to Huawei as well.

In 2004, when Nortel was at the verge of collapse by hackers they believed to be in China, the rise of Huawei began. When Nortel discovered that the hackers had free rein within the Nortel network for more than a decade before their collapse, Huawei was already selling on the international market. How Coincidental!

Describing the threat from Huawei, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had previously told reporters "When you allow the information of your citizens or the national security information of your citizens to transit a network that the Chinese Communist Party has a legal mandate to obtain, it creates risk."
