Trump Shakes the Chinese Media | U.S. Blocks Pro-Beijing Radio Station Run By The Chinese

The Trump Administration gives 48 hours for a Beijing-linked station to stop broadcasting radio-station to the US through a Mexican Station. 

A Mexico based radio station, Phoenix TV, that has ties with Pro-Beijing Media outlet was able to promote their Chronicles to the U.S by bypassing U.S. Laws and lying to regulators. The State department is cracking down on Chinese Propaganda Outlets that's operating in the US. But it all expedited after the Pro-Beijing overemphasis of a female reporter from Hong Kong based Phoenix TV which is technically 'privately-owned' their biggest investor is a state-owned mobile company, China Mobile. 

She started by asking "Only last week, there were multiple flights coming from China full of medical supplies. Companies like Huawei and Alibaba have been donating to the United States, like 1.5 million N95 masks and also a lot of medical gloves, and much more medical supplies."

For which Trump responded "Sounds more like a statement" and further listed the billions of dollars of trade deficit between U.S. and China. "Are you co-operating with China?", the female reporter added.

It turned out that  Phoenix TV is largely owned by a former Chinese Propaganda Official of Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA) who is the CEO of the Outlet and also holds 37.1% of its stakes. In 2019, a report by the Hoover Institution says that Phoenix TV is fully owned and controlled by the Chinese Government. 

The Texas senator wrote on Twitter: 'Phoenix TV has been waging information warfare in the US for yrs. They are nominally private but actually state owned. In 2018 I led effort to block them from using cutouts to spread propaganda. MSM should NEVER have given them seat at White House press conference.'

For Years, Phoenix had been trying to broadcast in Southern California, but it wasn't permitted by FCC Regulations that blocks radio broadcasters with more than 25% foreign ownership. But the Outlet found a way around the Law. In 2018, a New York based investment firm H&H Capital Partners bought a Spanish Language Radio Station in Mexico with its ally Phoenix TV  and changed it to a fully operable Chinese Radio Station. The Mexican Station is only 10 Miles from the U.S. Border and it reportedly reaches 6,00,000 Chinese Americans in Southern California. The Case unveils how CCP was able to circumvent US laws to reach American audiences. 

The Federal Communications Commission on Monday said it rejected the request of  the radio station in Mexico to continue broadcasting Mandarin Chinese language programs to southern California and ordered it to cease operations within 48 hours.

In February, China had ordered three foreign journalists of the Wall Street Journal to leave the country over an article that criticized the country's response to the deadly corona-virus outbreak. 13 Reporters from the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal were forced to return media passes within 10 days, by the Chinese Ministry.

"It is the first time in more than two decades that journalists holding valid credentials have been ordered to leave China" the BBC's John Sudworth in Beijing stated..

Earlier in march, the Trump administration imposed limits on the number of Chinese citizens who could work as journalists in the US . The US state department said five media outlets, including China's official news agency Xinhua, would be required to reduce their total number of staff to 100 from 160.

Trump designates  CCTV, Global Times, China News Service and the largest newspaper group in China, The People's Daily (PD China) as foreign Missions.The designation means the outlets will be treated as being akin to diplomatic missions and not media agencies.

In its notification of the move on Monday, the US State Department said, "These nine entities all meet the definition of a foreign mission under the Foreign Missions Act, which is to say that they are 'substantially owned or effectively controlled' by a foreign government. In this case, they are effectively controlled by the government of the People’s Republic of China.”

“The decision to designate these entities is not based on any content produced by these entities, nor does it place any restrictions on what the designated entities may publish in the United States. It simply recognizes them for what they are. Entities designated as foreign missions must adhere to certain administrative requirements that also apply to foreign embassies and consulates in the United States."
